Job Opportunity: Teaching Assistant(s) for Fall, 2013 Service Learning Course


Attention CSA Graduate Students, this position is not for credit in the CSA program. Additionally, make sure you check with your Internship supervisor before applying for this position. Employment for some internships is not permitted outside of the internship.

Job description: Five teaching assistants (TA’s) are needed to chaperone and supervise teams of 5-7 Chinese high school students completing a one-credit Service Learning course paired with Introduction to Sociology, this fall. Each teaching assistant will accompany a team of students as they travel by bus to and from their volunteer field placement (nursery school, soup kitchen, etc.), and will supervise their activity at the site. TA’s will reinforce key concepts and observe and provide feedback on student performance, under the general direction of the Service Learning course instructor. They will also be responsible for the safety and well-being of their minor students at the placement site.
Student volunteer work assignments will be scheduled between 1:15 and 5:15 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the fall term, beginning September 12. TA’s will also attend an organizational meeting with instructor, students and placement representatives on Thursday, September 5.

Qualifications: Rutgers matriculated students in good academic standing with excellent interpersonal skills. A criminal background check is required for all adults working with minors. Seniors or graduate students preferred.
