Special Topics in CSA: College Students in the U.S.

Dr. Ifenyinwa Onyenekwu, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice

This course examines foundational and new theories about college students in the United States with a focus on contemporary and anticipated student demographic and enrollment trends; campus culture, student life, and college outcomes. The course explores the diversity of students in higher education, the influence of institutional types, college student culture, the influence of socioeconomic differences on college enrollment and institutional policies and practices that enhance student learning, retention, and graduation.  As such, it includes opportunities for self-reflection and connects to GSE’s mission by developing students, self-awareness and cultural awareness.

* This course is open to all graduate students.

* For CSA students, this course will satisfy 3 elective credits out of the required 6 needed under the "Special Topics in CSA" requirement.

Please welcome a new faculty member to the CSA family - Dr. Ife Onyenekwu.  She earned her Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and her areas of study include the P-20 educational pipeline, diverse populations of Black students in higher education, and globalization of higher education.

Abby Stern Cardinale, a CSA Alum, has recently started as a Coordinator of Undergraduate Student Services at the Rutgers Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy! We are excited to welcome Abby back to the Rutgers Community!

The ACPA Ambassadors Program is currently recruiting graduate students and new professionals to serve as ACPA Ambassadors for the upcoming year (term length: Start of the Academic Year – ACPA Convention Columbus in 2017).   

What are ACPA Ambassadors?

Ambassadors are graduate students and new professionals working on campuses across the country to create networking opportunities and expand the knowledge of ACPA. They are the lifeline connecting their institution to ACPA and other institutions across the country. Ambassadors build and maintain a community within ACPA that focuses on innovative ideas and knowledge sharing. In addition to all that, Ambassadors have many opportunities to get connected with other committees and commissions, contribute to ACPA publications, and host networking events in their regions. This opportunity is also intended to serve as an initial leadership position to prepare you for future leadership roles in ACPA.

What does the position entail?

• Provide a personal link between ACPA and campuses nationwide
• Ambassadors are proactive individuals that are actively engaged with the association while keeping professionals at their campuses educated about ACPA opportunities
• Create and participate in valuable networking, leadership, and career development opportunities
• Contribute to a student affairs community that focuses on the exchange of innovative ideas and practices
• Participate in monthly conference calls
• Network with professionals across the country
• Demonstrate self-motivation and ability to function autonomously in order to be successful in this position

Mock Student Affairs Interview Conference hosted by The Rowan University Department of Residential Learning and University Housing & the Jersey Alliance

The Rowan University Department of Residential Learning and University Housing and The Jersey Alliance, the New Jersey State organization of ACPA are proud to sponsor a Mock Student Affairs Interview Conference! This FREE event is a tremendous opportunity for graduate students and new professionals seeking additional experience with in-person and virtual interviews.
