Holly Ennis Receives ACPA Graduate Student Award

Congratulations to Holly Ennis '11, who has been awarded the 2011 Outstanding Masters Student Award by the Standing Committee for Graduate Students and New Professionals of ACPA.  Holly was listed as an award winner in the spring issue of The Eighth Vector and was also honored at a SCGSNP Reception at the ACPA conference.  Holly is a second-year student in the 2009 cohort of the CSA program and will be graduating this May.

School of American Ballet Summer 2011 Position

During June and July, SAB operates a residential ballet summer program for 230 students from across the globe.  They are currently looking to hire additional staff members to fill the residence hall as Summer Course Assistants. This position (the official description is attached) is a wonderful job for college students looking for a unique summer experience in Student Affairs or related fields of interest! Applicants must be 21 years of age and preference will be given to those candidates with residence life, camp counseling or teen supervision experience.  This position carries with it a lot of responsibility but the payback is tenfold!

Interested students will need to review the job description and submit a letter of interest, resume and 2 references to my email as soon as possible. 

NODA Drive-In Workshop

National Orientation Directors (NODA) Region IX will host a Drive-in Workshop for orientation professional staff and graduate students.  


Friday, April 29th
 
10 AM to 1 PM
 
Stony Brook University's Manhattan Campus

This workshop will be a round-table style discussion of issues impacting the profession, including:

  • First-generation college students; developing orientation and communication plans for students and families.
  • Transfer student orientation; developing and improving orientation for this diverse student populations
  • Financial challenges; creating effective orientation programs during tough budget times
  • Veteran student orientation, Designing and implementing orientation programs for veteran students
  • And other topics of interest to our attendees! 
This event is FREE to NODA members. Registration will open after April 1st, but please save the date.  More information will follow!

2011 Cultural Study Tour to Central America & Panama Canal

Barbara Lee is Awarded Alice Paul Equity Award

Congratulations to Barbara Lee who has been selected to receive an Alice Paul Equity Award for her work on behalf of women in the workforce.  This award is granted to those individuals who capture the spirit of Alice Paul in working towards securing equal rights for all women.  

Barbara Lee is a professor in the Department of Human Resource Management at the School of Management and Labor Relations as well as a CSA faculty member, teaching the first-year class: The Law and Higher Education.

Dr. Perna as Presenter in Distinguished Lecture Series

The College Student Affairs in Higher Education Distinguished Lecture Series will host Dr. Laura Perna on Thurs., March 31 at 3:00pm.  Visiting from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Perna will focus on the issue of educational attainment, particularly for traditionally underrepresented students.
